Meribel (3 Vallees) Information
Méribel is located in the Tarentaise area of the northern French Alps, at the very heart of Les 3 Vallées – the world’s largest ski area!
Set amongst a forest of Arolla pine trees, the ski resort of Méribel is in fact made up of five villages, each with its own identity and atmosphere: Méribel Les Allues (1100m), Méribel Village (1400m), Méribel Centre (1500m), Méribel Les Hauts (1600m) and Méribel Mottaret (1750m). Visitors at all the villages are well catered for with shops, restaurants and bars as well as being served by an efficient shuttle bus system. Peak Retreats feature Meribel Centre and Meribel Mottaret.
Overall, Méribel is a tasteful purpose-built ski resort made up of traditional wood-clad, low-rise, chalet-style buildings and prides itself on its chalet-life atmosphere. Méribel remains one of the most popular ski resorts for British skiers and it is not hard to understand why, because of the combination of being a great village ski resort and its perfect location within the 3 Valleys ski area. The main two districts are Méribel Village and Méribel Centre.
Meribel Centre
Méribel Centre (1500m) stretches up the hillside beside the home piste and is composed of several small and charming hamlets: Musillion, Centre/La Chaudanne, Le Plan du Moulin, La Renarde/Les Chalets, Morel/Altitude 1600 and Le Plateau. As the name suggests, Méribel Centre is the largest, liveliest and most attractive of the Méribel villages (and perhaps even in France!), located at the heart of the ski resort. The village has a real chalet style to it as all the chalets and apartment buildings are traditionally constructed using light wood, stone and local slate. Méribel Centre boasts a vibrant main street atmosphere and offers by far the liveliest après-ski (with one of the famous Folie Douce's up on the slopes). This is also where you will find the most shops, services and activities (like The Mission Black Forest toboggan run) plus high-quality sporting facilities within the Olympic Sports Complex. Méribel Centre does not offer the same ski-in/ski-out facilities as some of the other villages, but still has quick and easy access to the Méribel and Les 3 Vallées ski areas.
Meribel Mottaret
Designed in 1972, the village of Méribel-Mottaret has accommodation mainly located at the foot of the slopes. Leave your car in the car park and enjoy the resort life of Méribel-Mottaret by skiing or walking. No matter where you stay in Méribel-Mottaret, all the shops and services are within easy reach: tourist office, cinema, bars, restaurants, mini-markets, bakeries, newsagents/tobacconists, numerous sports and ready-to-wear shops, and wellness activities. From Méribel-Mottaret by free shuttle, by ski or by car, reach Méribel Centre in 10 minutes to enjoy the swimming pools, ice rink, climbing wall, and bowling. Méribel-Mottaret offers a breathtaking view of the majestic Mont Vallon, which rises to almost 3,000m. Its wood-clad chalet residences blend harmoniously into its unique natural environment.
